If there is good in me, it is because of art
Michelangelo (1475-1564) is considered to be the greatest artist of all time. A virtuoso, his rendering of the human figure in dynamic and dramatic movement reached a level of unsurpassed perfection. Called in his lifetime 'God-like', he was admired for passion, sincerity and grandeur of his style. A 'Renaissance man' (a polymath), he achieved unparalleled success in versatile disciplines such as sculpting, painting, architecture, poetry, and engineering. When he was just six, during his mother's illness and after her death, he lived with a stonecutter and his family. "If there is some good in me, it is because along with the milk of my nurse I received the knack of handling chisel and hammer", Michelangelo wrote. He made the sculpture of David, reproduced here, when he was 26. A symbol of victory, strength and beauty, 'David' is among the most famous works in existence. Being endlessly reproduced, it is aslo a supreme example how an atmosphere of culture can be brought in all kind of settings.
